The steering Group met on 2nd April to put the final touches to the application for HLF funding. This will be completed and ready for submission by 17th April.
Representatives of the steering group had a meeting with HLF (Heritage Lottery Fund) to discuss the project and have taken some further advice from the Nottinghamshire County Council Senior Archaeologist, Ursilla Spence. There is so much potential for this project and we would like to investigate a large area of the Roman landscape around the town of Segelocum and the Roman road.
With this in mind, we have decided to apply for funding in two stages. The first phase will be used to test whether methods such as geophysical survey will give the results we want and to gauge the response from volunteers and local people. We will then look at a much bigger HLF application to carry out a wider landscape project over 3 years.
The steering group is currently gathering quotes from geophysics companies and landowner permissions, and the first application will be submitted over Summer.
We will keep you posted on progress. Fingers crossed the application is successful!
