The Sturton Ward Planning Forum
The Beginnings of a Neighbourhood Plan
Under the Localism Bill, likely to become law in 2012, local communities are encouraged to produce plans to identify, preserve, enhance and protect key aspects of their local environment. Subject to some qualifications, these must be adopted in legislation by the local District Council. Our Three Parish Councils, North Leverton, Sturton le Steeple and Wheatley are working together to produce a Neighbourhood plan. - on which eventually we shall seek the comments, approval and ratification of the whole community. But we’re only just starting – and will welcome your input and help at all stages – especially this one.
The plan will be one stage up on our Village Design Statements, covering wider and more inclusive aspects of our living environment and amenities than the individual village plans. Besides establishing a “Green and Sustainable” locality, it will attempt to protect community assets and wider landscapes such as pubs and village halls, sports fields, schools, churches, post offices and shops as well as footpaths, bridleways, ancient hedgerows and even our good countryside views, We might even try to draw in some local jobs. In other words, we aim to protect all those good things that make us feel “At Home”; and good about where we live.
