One in four Crimestoppers calls leads to an arrest

ONE in four calls to Crimestoppers made by people living in the north of Nottinghamshire leads to an arrest.

Between January and May 2005 80 calls were made to Crimestoppers from people in Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood.

Information given by members of the public resulted in 19 arrests.

Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Richard Johnson said: “Every call to Crimestoppers is invaluable.”

“These figures go to show that you may hold a vital piece of information, which may be exactly what police need to secure an arrest and possibly conviction of an offender.”

“We understand that you may not want to talk directly to the police and you may want to remain anonymous – so please talk to Crimestoppers.”

Crimestoppers is an independent charity. All calls are handled with discretion by trained operators who will pass your information on to the relevant authorities.

You are not required to give your name, make a statement or appear in court.

If you have any information on crime and want to speak to somebody free and confidentially call 0800 555 111.
